Do you miss Squid Game? Play Crab Game

An independent developer has created an online game on Steam that is directly inspired by Squid Game, the Netflix series. If you want to play “one, two, three, sun” against a killer doll, you know where to turn.

It is not called “Squid Game”, but “Crab Game”, and its creator promises it: this game is ” absolutely not based on a Korean TV series on a streaming platform », Can we read on his file on the Steam video game platform.

In reality, Crab Game is indeed an online game completely inspired by Squid Game, the original Netflix production which has become the most watched in the history of the platform, in terms of viewing intentions as well as in number of hours.

The indie video game was developed by Dani Deverson, who previously created another Minecraft-inspired survival game titled Muck, in mid-2021. Crab Game takes up all the aesthetics of Squid Game, from its title to the sets to the costumes of the characters and the trials that must be overcome.

Crab Game, an unpretentious free online multiplayer game

This is a completely free online multiplayer game, in which you are a participant taking the same tests that are found in the series. Squid Game. Where you have to take turns playing “one, two, three, sun” with a killer doll or jump on glass plates, hoping that they will not collapse under your feet. The game ends when everyone has lost except one person, who then wins the total stake.

The maximum number of players is 35 per game, and there are, according to the developer, 28 different cards. So there are more games in Crab Game than those that we see on screen in the Netflix series – for example we were able to play ” floor is lava »Where you must not touch the ground on pain of death (yes, the cause / consequence ratio is quite drastic).

Since it was uploaded to Steam on October 29, 2021, the indie game has enjoyed great success; it was even spotted by the specialized site Polygon, which allowed Numerama to discover this unpretentious work, which nevertheless entertained us for a few tens of minutes.

We had to wait a few minutes for other internet users to join us to play games, but once they were there, they usually stayed and played with us. Once the keyboard controls were taken in hand and adapted to our game, we plunged into this world as scary as it is absurd, where childish games always end in bloodshed – we unfortunately exploded after failing to steal the hat of one of our adversaries.

The game is available for free on Steam, but is only compatible with PCs. If you want to know more about the creation of Crab Game, its creator Dani posted a very funny 14 minute “making-off” video, in which he regularly asks Netflix not to ” not sue him ».
