JAKARTA – Dave Bautista started his career in entertainment as a wrestler; a label that I desperately want to forget. Wanting to completely abandon his wrestling career, Dave didn’t even want to be seen working with other former wrestlers, John Cena being one of them.
In contrast to John Cena who still seems to often grace the WWE ring, such as at the SummerSlam event against Roman Reigns on August 21 yesterday, Dave Bautista decided to retire from the world of wrestling since 2019. Although “retirement” in the entertainment world is not something that lasts forever, Dave is adamant that he will not touch wrestling again and will establish himself as an actor.

Last June, a fan idly gave Dave the idea to make a film with John Cena, but Dave replied briefly; “no.” Feeling a bit controversial, Dave corrected his statement and said “I don’t want to touch wrestling anymore, that’s all.”
This statement finally reached the ears of John Cena, who felt a little sad that Dave didn’t want to play a movie with him. However, on the other hand, he understood why Dave was so stubborn about dealing with wrestling again.
“I’m sad Dave doesn’t want to do a movie with me because he’s such a great actor. But, when someone makes a statement like that, I think it’s important to look at things from a different perspective. Dave has worked really hard as an actor and I understand that,” said John.
“Dave is a very nice person and I’m sure we don’t have any problems. He just wanted to be recognized for his work and acting skills; not as a former wrestler, but as a Hollywood actor. And I really respect his decision.”
So far, Dave and John have a passion for the same roles: superhero movies. Dave rose to fame in Hollywood for his role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while John recently played Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. Although the idea of combining them in a film sounds interesting, Dave doesn’t seem to want to be in a film that only sells star names without any substance.
