Leonardo DiCaprio’s father has honored his very first acting role in a new film by legendary director Paul Thomas Anderson.
But Oscar winner Leo is not in Licorice Pizza – the film in which Father George DiCaprio plays the role of a waterbed salesman.
Leo confirmed the news in a red carpet interview in December with Entertainment Tonight.
He said: “I haven’t seen it yet, but my dad George DiCaprio made an appearance in a Paul Thomas Anderson movie.
Leo said his father worked as a waterbed salesman himself.
But George is more used to standing behind the camera lens as a producer on film sets, TV series, and documentaries.
IMDB claims Leo’s father has produced 16 other films for the big screen.
These include a 2008 10-episode television series titled Greensburg and a short documentary titled Carbob starring Leo as a voiceover.
Licorice Pizza tells the story of two young lovers, Alana Kane and Gary Valentine, who grow up and know their first love in the San Fernando Valley in California in 1973.
Its director Paul achieved “legend” status on the Hollywood circuit after films like There will be blood with Daniel Day-Lewis, and Boogie evenings, with Mark Wahlberg.
No surprises, he managed to grab some of the best in the business for the film’s lead and supporting roles.
Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper, Alana Haim, and Cooper Hoffman all feature in Licorice Pizza.
The film has already won 35 awards and 115 nominations.
These nominations include the industry’s top awards for Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actress, Best Performance by an Actor and Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes.
The film was released in the UK on December 28 and will complete its worldwide launch in January.
While Leo won’t star in Paul’s movie with his father, he has turned eyes with his recent Netflix film about the realities of climate change.
Do not seek tells the story of two scientists, played by Leo and Jennifer Lawrence, in the hope of warning the world of a comet destroying mankind.
Leo’s film also selected a star cast including Mark Rylance, Jonah Hill and Timothée Chalamet.
Father and son may have to fight for the best movie of the season (even if George was only playing a cameo.)
