Lupine and Squid Game in the spotlight

On January 9, the 79th Golden Globes ceremony will be held. As a reminder, this event, organized since 1944 in Hollywood, rewards the best films and the best series of the past year.

Remember that these prizes are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an organization that brings together journalists specializing in American cinema but working for foreign publications. Ahead of this meeting, the organizers unveiled the list of nominees on Monday, a pre-selection which reveals some nice surprises.

Three French actors are nominated for these 2022 Golden Globes

On the French side, we find Omar Sy, named in the category “best actor in a dramatic series” for Lupin, currently streaming on Netflix. This original creation of the platform also competes for the title of “best dramatic series.” On the other hand, it will have a hard time dealing with productions like Succession, The Morning Show, or Squid Game, the series that hit the mark worldwide.

This did not escape the jury’s notice, and this South Korean production can be found in two other categories: “best actor in a dramatic series” with Lee Jung-jae, and “best supporting actor in a dramatic series. : Oh Yeong-su.

French cinema is particularly spoiled this year with two other nominations. Thus, Marion Cotillard will compete in the category “best actress in a film” for her performance in Annette by Leos Carax. For his part, Tahar Rahim is cited in the category “best actor in a mini-series” for his excellent performance in The snake, streamed on Netflix.

As we already noticed last year, streaming platforms now largely dominate this race for distinctions. Once contested, services like Netflix, Disney +, HBO Max, or even Apple TV +, are now making rain and shine in the film industry.
