Playing in Eternals, Kumail Nanjiani Still Can’t Believe Being Part of the MCU : Okezone Celebrity

JAKARTA– American-Pakistani actor and comedian, Kumail Nanjiani still don’t believe in being the new family of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As is known, he played in one of Marvel’s films, Eternals.

“It doesn’t feel real,” said Kumail Nanjiani as reported from the page CBR, Monday (30/8/2021).

“We have just held the premiere after being postponed for a year. While filming, I felt like I was in a Marvel movie. But now years have passed and when people ask ‘how does it feel to be part of the MCU?’ I always say ‘I don’t know, I’m not sure until the movie comes out’,” he added.

Kumail Nanjiani also admitted that he wasn’t sure if he was officially part of the MCU. Moreover, he is afraid of whether his role will be cut or replaced by someone else, considering that the film has not been shown yet. “I don’t really know,” he said.

Nonetheless, the actor feels Eternals will be Marvel’s biggest step so far in terms of adapting real-world culture to the big screen, like Black Panther or Crazy Rich Asians.

“It feels like a big moment in world culture,” he said.

In the film Eternals, Kumail Nanjiani will play Kingo, a swordsman and Bollywood film actor who, like the other Eternals brothers and sisters, has super abilities given by the Marvel gods called Celestials. Eternals itself will be the third film in the fourth phase of the MCU, continuing Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Last year, Marvel announced that Eternals would be pushed back from February 2021 to November 2021 and could be pushed back, depending on the success of the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which will be released on September 3.

Directed by Chloe Zhao, Eternals will star Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan, and many other veteran Hollywood actors.
