“Best regards to my Queen Taylor Swift”: A hacker hacked the Spotify artist profiles of some world-famous singers – the accounts of Dua Lipa and Lana Del Rey were also affected. In addition to greetings to Taylor Swift, the hacker also mentioned US President Donald Trump.

According to media reports, a hacker has gained access to the Spotify profiles of several well-known singers – including the artist pages of Dua Lipa and Lana Del Ray. The stranger also left a few greetings to pop star Taylor Swift.

With the “Spotify for Artists” tool, musicians can manage their own Spotify homepage and, in addition to their songs, publish profile pictures, short biographies and their own playlists. The hacker, who called himself Daniel, replaced the artist’s photos with a picture of himself and the biographies with his own passages. He is also said to have called on users to follow him on Snapchat and added the words “Trump 2020”.

Bad time for security breach

For Spotify, Daniel’s foray into personal profiles should be extremely embarrassing – the music provider had just released the most streamed songs of the year. Users have also recently been able to view their personal musical annual review.

The streaming service quickly corrected the changes. However, there are still numerous screenshots of the hacked profiles on Twitter.

However, it is still unclear how the hacker gained access to the artist profiles. Third parties – such as employees of the record label – should actually only get access to an artist account after going through a verification process. According to “BBC”, Spotify has not yet commented on the attack.

Dua Lipa among Spotify’s Top Artists of the Year

According to Spotify, the British singer Dua Lipa was one of the most streamed artists in 2020, alongside Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and Halsey. The Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny secured first place: 8.3 billion streams were on his account alone. The most played song, however, comes from the Canadian The Weeknd – “Blinding Lights” was streamed 1.6 billion times.
