Surprisingly, Taylor Swift released her new album “Folklore” last week (July 24th). On the black and white cover, the singer stands in a forest. Pretty mystical – but unfortunately she is not the first to come up with this idea. At the beginning of the year black metal musician Ihsahn released his single “Stridig”, the cover of which is similar to that of Swift. On social media, the frontman of the Norwegian black metal band Emperor compared the two covers side by side.
Of forest and metal
In his caption he reposted the words David Thierrees, the graphic artist who created the single cover for “Stridig”. Thierree himself said of the similarities, “Well folks, I’m not the only one who thinks Taylor Swift’s new artwork is very metal-wise … even very close to Ihsahn’s artwork that I’ve created. I could have done it for her, probably for a cheaper price than what she paid. “
Ihsahn shared the comment, quipping “Has anyone seen Taylor Swift’s new album? Personally, I like the design. ”His single with the cover in question was released in February of this year. The forest looks almost identical on both covers, only the human being is missing in Ihsahn’s picture.
The Norwegian announced the second of his two 2020 EPs a week before Swift’s surprise album. In “Pharos”, however, he will forego the forest motif, instead a sea scene will be seen.
