Taylor Swift has released a new version of their single “All Too Well”. It’s called “Sad Girl Autumn”. The re-interpretation was recorded in Long Pond Studios with the help of her old friend Aaron Dessner.
New song darker than the original
The two albums FOLKLORE and EVERMORE, which were released in 2020, were also created in the same place together with Aaron Dessner. Instead of the shrill acoustic guitar of the original, “All Too Well”, you can hear an atmospheric piano on “Sad Girl Autumn”. That creates a much darker mood than in the original. When she shared the song on social media, Swift wrote, “One of the saddest songs I’ve ever written just got sadder.”
In this version of the song, which is also 10 minutes long, the piano is played by Aaron Dessner of The National. “I had never played ‘All Too Well’, but I heard it so often that it must have burned itself into my musical memory,” said Dessner about the song in a post on Instagram. “Somehow this ‘Sad Girl Autumn’ version felt like it was already out in the open. It felt so good to play it on the creaky cardigan piano and Taylor’s performance is stunning. “
Already the fifth version of the song from 2012
The “Sad Girl Autumn” version is the fifth reinterpretation of the song. It’s also the fourth, most recently released in a week.
Her latest album, RED (TAYLOR’S VERSION), was released last Friday, November 11th, 2021. On the same day, Swift performed on Saturday Night Live. She also appeared in a sketch with Pete Davidson on the popular show. It was announced earlier this week that their new album broke a Spotify streaming record. With over 90 million streams on the first day, she had the most streams by a female artist on Spotify during that period.
