What calls the most attention in a meeting with Fabio Porchat, 33 years old, is that he speaks very fast. Very. “I’m like that naturally. I don’t like anything that turns me on”, he warns. The amazing thing is that he probably thinks at an even greater speed, which would explain his ability to improvise and make people laugh on stage, in the group’s videos. Back door, no talk show who runs Record since August. To get an idea, in 15 minutes we had already discussed everything from the choice of the restaurant to his routine in the city and the program – in detail.

We had lunch in the traditional São Paulo cantina, Famiglia Mancini. “It’s one of the most beautiful restaurants here and it stays open late. I thought São Paulo was the city that doesn’t sleep, but sleeps peacefully. I left the theater at 1 o’clock and everything was closed, except this one. Other than that, the food is wonderful and you can eat like a wild ogre”, says the actor, who was born in Rio, but lived in São Paulo until he was 18 years old and more recently temporarily because of the theater.
Now, he has finally left the hotel, where he stayed for nearly two years, and rented a friend’s house, which was already furnished. “I’m living with Nataly (Mega, executive producer of Porta dos Fundos). Although a suitcase with five shirts was enough for me, for her it wasn’t…”
The couple returns to Rio almost every weekend to do the Back door. From Monday to Thursday, Porchat is dedicated to the program, which has averaged 6 points of court hearing. As interviews are recorded in advance – “Live, 00:15, I wouldn’t have guests” – but other excerpts, on the day, so as not to lose the topicality and especially the joke with recent facts.

The format is imported from talk shows Americans, like those of Ellen DeGeneres e Conan O’Brien, which Porchat visited at the end of his vacation – two months, 15 stops, four continents. “Conan has been doing this ‘only’ for 24 years, but his tranquility and the functioning of the production are impressive. It was good to see that I can do it more calmly, enjoy it. By re-watching the interviews, I think I’ve improved.” So far we hadn’t ordered yet: penne with seafood pesto, which he chose to share.
At lunch, I also learned that, in addition to talking quickly, Porchat doesn’t have much hand coordination. Fortunately, he didn’t need to demonstrate, but he repeated it four times to justify not knowing how to dance, play an instrument, cook, or be good at sports. He’s funny, of course, but he’s not joking all the time – which is a little frustrating, although quite understandable.
Other curiosities: his youngest sister (there are three of them) is pregnant with his first godson, João Francisco, who is born this month. It is, in fact, a very family boy. “One day, a guy called me asking where I was. When I told him it was on my aunt’s birthday, he replied: ‘Oh, that’s stolen’. And I dont! I organized it’. I love my aunts and my grandmother!”.
Porchat is kind. He apologized several times for having arrived eight minutes late – at a stopped São Paulo. And generous – in addition to an award for comedians, who funded alone, without sponsorship, there is an NGO that helps athletes, plays, institutions. And focused – “My hobbies are all work-related. I don’t go to the theater just because I love it, but to see what’s going on.” He finished eating, saw the time and asked if he could go, who was going to pay the bill, if everything was ok. And it was. Mission Accomplished.
