Corona summit: Kretschmer calls for tougher rules in Germany
+++ 8.00 a.m .: Shortly before the start of the Corona summit on Friday, Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer called for uniform, tougher corona rules nationwide. “We need comparable regulations in the whole of Germany. No major events, no visitors in the stadiums – and a degree of contact restrictions that flattens this Omikron wave, ”Kretschmer told the newspapers of the Funke media group. That also applies to those who have been vaccinated, he added: “We are together in the same boat. If everyone were vaccinated, we wouldn’t be worried about the Omicron variant. The reality is, of course, that vaccinated people can infect others too. There will be certain restrictions for everyone. ”That is why it is right to expand the 2G and 2G-Plus regulations.
“I consider opening bars and discos to be irresponsible in the coming weeks,” he emphasized in an interview. In addition, financial compensation models are necessary to save companies.
Corona summit today: Lauterbach defends planned measures
Update from Friday, January 7th, 2022, 6:20 am: Before the Corona summit on new measures against the pandemic on Friday (January 7th, 2022), Health Minister Karl Lauterbach defended the planned access restrictions for restaurants and cafés (see update from Thursday, 6:50 p.m.). “Gastronomy is a problem area, because you often sit for hours without a mask,” Lauterbach told RTL on Thursday evening. So you need better protection against possible infection. For the interior of the restaurant, it is intended that “you can only enter there if you have been vaccinated and tested twice. Only those who have been boosted can get in that way. “
Criticism came from the restaurant lobby. The Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association rejected the idea of introducing 2G plus in the catering industry. “I warn against panic actionism, 2G plus plunges companies into existential need with no added value for the infection process”. The planned decision in January, which was already weak in terms of turnover, would amount to a “quasi-lockdown”.
Meanwhile, doubts arose as to whether the increasing number of infections could overwhelm the infrastructure for corona tests in Germany. According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the corona incidence on Friday morning was 303.4 * – the value has recently risen sharply again.
Corona summit: first decisions – what the federal and state governments are planning
Update, 6:50 p.m .: The federal and state governments are planning to tighten the rules for access to restaurants and cafes because of the Omikron variant of the corona virus. There, the 2G Plus rules should apply nationwide and regardless of incidences. Vaccinated and convalescent people are only allowed to visit restaurants with a daily test or with proof of a booster vaccination. This is reported by Tagesspiegel, citing a resolution proposal for the Corona summit on Friday (January 7th, 2022). The new rule could apply from January 15, 2022, but the exact date is still controversial.
There should therefore be no new restrictions for cultural and leisure facilities as well as retail. The 2G rule should continue to apply there. According to the draft resolution that is available to the Tagesspiegel, there will be no tightening. The contact restrictions for private meetings should also not be changed.
The draft resolution for the Corona summit also recommends wearing FFP2 masks in shops and public transport. You could therefore curb the transmission of the Omikron variant.
Corona summit: This is what the federal and state governments are planning according to the draft resolution
First report from Thursday, January 6th, 2022: Berlin – The federal and state governments will discuss new measures to combat the pandemic at a corona summit on Friday (January 7th, 2022). The main reason for the consultations is the Omikron variant that is circulating, which is considered to be highly infectious. Researchers expect this to soon replace the delta mutation as the dominant variant in Germany. In several federal states, Omikron already accounts for a large part of corona infections.
That is why the political leaders see the need to tighten the rules. Above all, the quarantine regulation and contact restrictions come to the fore.
Corona summit: focus on quarantine rules and contact restrictions
The Robert Koch Institute and the Federal Government’s new Expert Council have drawn up recommendations for this. On the sidelines of the health ministers’ conference on Wednesday (January 5th, 2022), the first draft resolution of the Corona summit, which our editorial team has received, was already known. It contains the following points and mainly deals with the quarantine rules:
- Corona-unvaccinated and Covid-19 convalescents should only be allowed to end their quarantine as soon as they can present a negative test. Corona-vaccinated people, on the other hand, should be able to end their quarantine after a week if they can present a negative, certified antigen test.
- Employees from systemically important occupational groups, on the other hand, should be able to end their quarantine after five days, provided a negative, certified antigen test can be presented.
- Vaccinated contact persons of corona infected people who are symptom-free should also be able to end their quarantine after seven days. A negative antigen test should also be required in this case.
- Contact persons infected with corona who have been boosted or have been double-vaccinated should not have to be quarantined at all. The condition for double vaccinations should be that the second vaccination was less than three months ago.
- The general quarantine duration could be reduced from a total of 14 days to ten days.
Corona summit: Lauterbach calls for tougher contact restrictions
Nonetheless, tightening of the contact restrictions could also be decided. Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach * had already announced at the weekend that “new measures” were needed in Germany in order to counteract the Omikron wave accordingly. * He renewed this on Wednesday evening: “We will probably have to improve again.”
The federal-state consultations, which take place as a video conference, are to begin around 1 p.m. Results are expected to be presented in the late afternoon or early evening. At this point we are reporting live from the Corona summit on Friday. (tu / lrg / ms) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
