All airlines certified in Moldova were removed from the EU aviation safety list, “following improvements in aviation safety in the country”. This concerns principally Air Moldova , HiSky e FlyOne , based at the airport of Chisinau and both serve France among others (Beauvais and Paris-CDG). A Russian air carrier, Skol Airlines , “It was however added to the list, due to concerns about its ability to comply with international standards,” the Commission said in a statement.90 airlines certificate in 15 states , i.e. Afghanistan, Angola (except 2 airlines), Armenia, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone and Sudan, are banned from space European aircraft “due to inadequate safety supervision by the aviation authorities of these states”;
They have also been seven individual airlines identified , “Based on identified serious security breaches”: Avior Airlines (Venezuela), Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname), Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Iraqi Airways (Iraq), Med-View Airlines (Nigeria), Skol Airline LLC ( Russia) and Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe).
Two other airlines are subject to operational restrictions and can only fly into the EU with specific aircraft types: Iran Air (Iran) and Air Koryo (North Korea).
Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean said: “The maintaining the highest level of safety for all air travelers and staff is a top priority. The EU aviation safety list remains one of our most important tools effective to achieve this goal. I am particularly pleased that, after two years of hard work, we are now able to remove all Moldovan air carriers from this list, opening the doors for them to a new flight to the EU. It shows that hard work and close cooperation are paying off ”.
The EU Aviation Safety List “not only helps to maintain high levels of safety in the EU, but it helps also airlines and countries interested in improving theirs. Furthermore, the EU aviation safety list has become an important prevention tool, as it encourages countries to act quickly before a ban is needed, ”recalls the Commission.
