The quartet of Alfa Carlsson and Jiří Kotač embarks on a summer tour of the Czech Republic and Slovakia

An international jazz quartet named after Swedish guitarist Alfa Carlsson and Czech trumpet player Jiří Kotač announces the summer part of the tour. The quartet thus follows up on the pandemic-canceled concerts for the release of the album “Journey”. The ensemble will perform on the last weekend of July and the first of August at a total of six stops in Žilina, Letovice, Brno, Rimavská Sobota, Banská Bystrica and Písek.

“At the next concerts, we will enrich the repertoire with a few fresh songs from the session in Stockholm earlier this year. Of the originally planned forty performances in Sweden, Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic last year, only a few were finally performed due to the pandemic situation,” says trumpet player Jiří Kotača. After last year’s canceled international tour, the series of six stops is aptly called Journey Continues. The quartet will perform at the 3 + 1 festival in Letovice, the Sobotka Jazz Festival in Rimavská Sobota, the Garden of Independent Culture Center in Banská Bystrica or Jazz in Písek in the Písek Center of Culture. The international quartet was founded by Swedish guitarist Alf Carlsson, who composed music for the Nobel Peace Prize, for example, together with Jiří Kotača. This year, with his big band Cotatcha Orchestra, he was nominated for the Anděl Award in the jazz category and placed first in the Czech Jazz Harvest 2020 of Czech Radio Jazz. The band was joined by the most sought-after Slovak jazzmen from the youngest generation, Peter Korman, on double bass and drummer Kristián Kuruc.

“We both studied for eight months as part of the Erasmus program at the Codarts Academy of Music in Rotterdam, where we met on common subjects during our studies. When we returned home, we stayed in touch and planned my visit to the Czech Republic. another tour. We just both made it to the same place at the same time, ” Alf Carlsson recalls the origin of the ensemble.
