Polish space sector at Space Tech Expo Europe 2021

Space Tech Expo in Bremen is considered the largest business event (B2B) from the perspective of the European space industry. This year, representatives of the regional sector present their offer and talk about planned projects for three days.

The fair in Germany was opened on November 16 this year. “Keynotes from Eurpean Space Leaders” panel. One of the guests was the president of POLSA, prof. Grzegorz Wrochna, who on this occasion spoke about the changes taking place in the Polish space sector and the role of small and medium-sized national agencies in shaping the future of the global sector. He also presented the immediate plans of the Polish Space Agency.

A new undeveloped space has appeared in the cosmic landscape. Small satellites are created that can do a lot thanks to technological advances. Thanks to this, even small companies can build them on their own. Satellite constellations are often more efficient than large satellites.

President Wrochna asked, inter alia, attention to the currently increased activity of individual countries in space and the challenges that follow. “We are placing in orbit subsequent constellations of satellites that create the infrastructure on which we depend on Earth, and therefore it must be secured” – he emphasized. “We must jointly develop and implement international law and regulations, how to navigate in outer space, how to avoid collisions and how to jointly, non-invasively manage space for the benefit of all users” – added prof. Wrochna.

He further pointed out that in the past decades there have been numerous “predictions of the end of certain scientific disciplines”, but that subsequent discoveries have resulted in a rapid development of these disciplines thanks to breakthroughs and new technologies. “Today, thanks to the Internet, miniaturization, quantum technology, 3D printing, artificial intelligence and satellite data, the market has gained new momentum and will certainly open up new opportunities that we cannot even imagine at present” – summed up the president of POLSA.

The panel was attended by representatives of many recognized space agencies from all over Europe – including: prof. Dr. Anke Kaysser-Pyzalia (DLR), Philippe Baptiste (CNES), Ian Annett (UKSA), Marc Serres (Luxemburg Space Agency).
