Taylor Swift sets new records with FOLKLORE

Just a week after Taylor Swift surprisingly released her new album, FOLKLORE is already the best-selling record of the year. According to an official press release, Swift’s newest work has sold more than two million times worldwide. This makes the singer the first and only female performer of the 21st century, five albums of whom made it to number 1 in the British charts.

The singer also set a new record with the streaming provider Spotify. In just one day, FOLKLORE was streamed around 81 million times, more than any other album by a female musician during this period.

Just under a year after the release of her seventh album LOVER (2019), the 30-year-old singer-songwriter surprisingly shared her latest studio album on July 31. Swift wrote on Twitter that although FOLKLORE was created completely in corona isolation, she was still lucky enough to be able to work with artists such as Aaron Dessner, Bon Iver and William Bowery.

Dessner announced via Instagram that he was “rarely so inspired by someone” as by Taylor Swift. He also explains: “I was excited and honored when Taylor approached me at the end of April to possibly write some songs with me from a distance.” Read his full statement on the development of the joint tracks here:

Taylor Swift also posted a video for the song “cardigan” online. When the clip was recorded, according to Swift, strict hygiene measures were observed: “The filming was supervised by a medical examiner, everyone wore masks and stayed away from each other, and I even took care of my hair, make-up and styling myself.”

ME author Jochen Overbeck also praised Swift’s new album in the highest tones. “The US superstar warms hearts with shimmering songs between indie, pop and folk,” he enthused in his review and rewarded the record with five and a half stars out of six.
